You’ve heard the saying, “It’s firing on all cylinders,” referring to a car with all its parts running perfectly. An engine might get by running without one of its cylinders for a while. But would you want to be riding in a car without all of it parts committed and running as intended? It might not get you to your desired destination!
We see membership in much the same manner. As a member you are committed to the engine; seeking ways to serve, committed to Christ’s call, utilizing your talents and giving of what God has so graciously given to fulfill His mission. Simply showing up isn’t enough; we are called to invest ourselves as an active part of the community of faith.
In the book of Acts (2:42) we see this; “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” This is a beautiful description of how WE as the church are to live out our devotion and commitment to Jesus Christ and to one another.
