Practical Parenting Tools

by Pastor Andy Wright

The greatest influence and God-designed plan for raising children is through their parents.* That’s a no-brainer; what a gigantic task it is being a good parent! One upcoming tool to help parents in our church, but also in our local community is through the Confident Parenting Breakfast on Saturday, February 25, 8:30 to 10:30 am.

Our speaker will be author and family ministry guru, Jim Burns. We’ll serve an amazing breakfast while attendees enjoy his inspirational teaching that lays a positive foundation for parenting with practical strategies and illustrations. His presentation will include material relevant to parents of all ages of children and even grandparents.

Here’s our little secret, though—in addition to the event being helpful for parents inside our church, this breakfast event is being designed to help those who are not connected to any church or to the Lord. Jim is planning his talk with the realization that many attendees may not be from Northshore or familiar with living Christ-centered lives. Our hope is that this is an “easy ask” for other parents you may know, so that they might possibly gain some useful parenting tools and consider coming back. We especially hope that this may be a step God uses in bringing these people to know and follow Jesus.

All the information about this is online at www.nsb.org/parenting. In addition to the information on the website, we would like for our Northshore family to consider 3 things:

  1. Invite guests from your community and at the breakfast, be a little extra “hospitable” as we have guests in “our house.”
  2. If financially able, help with the “suggested donation” while encouraging guests to “just come” (i.e. free).
  3. Consider helping serve (with other adults and students) if you are not bringing a guest (contact andyw@nsb.org for information on serving).

Jim will also be our guest speaker for all Sunday services February 26, so perhaps our guests will want to come back for more. Childcare is available, but everyone needs to register online due to space, food and childcare limitations, so go to www.nsb.org/parenting to read more and sign up!

*we realize that some may be filling in as “parents” for various reason, so please consider this for you as well!
