Living in the Grip of the Gospel
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). To be totally honest with you, this is one of those “I at least want to want to be able to say this about my life” kinds of declarations. “To live is Christ” – Jesus living in me and through me. “To die is gain” – I’m not only willing but also so desirous to see my Savior face to face that I can’t wait to be there with Him. This prayer of the Apostle Paul’s is a process…day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year of a “long obedience in the same direction” as Eugene Peterson would put it. This is one of those “living in the grip of the gospel” prayers. And it must become our prayer.
