Small Group Questions- Week 3

1. Last week we talked about the power of gratitude in our prayer lives. How did your focus on gratitude impact your prayer life and attitude this week?

2. Have someone read Matthew 6:11. Jesus teaches us to pray that God will give “us our daily bread,” not that God will give “me my daily bread.” It’s not simply a prayer of provision for us individually, but also for those around us. How actively are you praying for provision for those around you – those you know as well as those you don’t? How might this practice impact your prayer life?

3. Unanswered prayer is a difficult subject. Tell your group about a time you felt God didn’t answer your prayers as you would have liked. How did you deal with any disappointment you might have felt? What have you learned from those experiences?

4. In Matthew 6:12, Jesus makes a connection between God’s forgiveness and our forgiveness of others. Which is harder for you; accepting God’s forgiveness or forgiving others? What have you learned about each?

5. In the Old Testament, the people of God often piled Ebenezer stones (ex. 1 Samuel 7:12) – small landmarks that reminded the people of God’s faithfulness. Gather some stones from the yard or use wadded paper for “stones.” Spend some time piling them on the table or in the center of the room and tell a story of a time you experienced God’s faithfulness in your life.
