Prison Visitation Ministry

Make a difference in someone’s life by making a once a month visit to an inmate in Monroe (men) or Purdy (women).  Volunteers are matched one-on-one with an inmate who has applied to the program.

Women: Visit at Purdy (Gig Harbor) – 4th Sunday each month - Contact Carry Mattocks at (425) 485-8780

Men: Visit at Monroe Correctional Center – 1st or 3rd Tuesday of each month – Contact Chuck Burns at (425) 820-2231

OR Visit at Monroe Correctional Center - Every Thursday - Contact Pete Sinrud pete@serenityseekers.org

Check out Serenity Seeker's website for more information about their ministry and the impact they are having in our prisons.

There are men and women in our prison systems waiting to visit with and talk to a Christian friend and mentor.  The time commitment is minimal (3-4 hours once a month), and the value for both you and your new friend is phenomenal.  These prisoners are definitely “the least, the last and the lost” in our society and are in dire need of someone who cares and who can be an example and an encourager.  Building relationships with people is the key to creating a chance to share your faith in Christ.  Ninety-nine percent of inmates will some day be let out of prison.   Submitting their life to Christ is the best way for them to turn their life around.  We want them all to be safe and productive members of society when it comes time for them to be released.  Be a part of this opportunity to change people’s lives and contact the appropriate person above to schedule a trial visit and see what it’s like.

Read about one success story reported by a Northshore volunteer ….

"Patricia was in prison for the 3rd time.  While at the Women’s Correctional Center in Purdy she gave her life to the Lord.  Soon after an NSB volunteer was matched with Patricia and mentored her in her new faith; helping her grow in her walk with the Lord, sharing scripture with her and praying for her.  The volunteer encouraged her to reconcile with her sister and her daughters.  Patricia started writing to her family on the “outside.”  They noticed a change of her heart in her letters. Something was different in Patricia and they were willing to write back and receive phone calls from her.  The volunteer diligently prayed with Patricia about her family.

When it came time for Patricia to be released, her sister offered to let Patricia stay with her at her Texas home till she could get a job and find a place to live.  Having no contact with her sister in many years, this was a tremendous breakthrough!  Upon release the volunteer met Patricia at the airport to say goodbye.  Patricia’s daughter was also there to give her a hug and say goodbye as she flew to Texas.  Patricia has totally turned her life around … the first thing she wanted to do when she got to her new home was find a church. She attends a church regularly and was baptized last July. She is now holding down a regular job, has her own apartment and car and is going to college.  This year, Patricia recently made the Dean’s list at her college, and the National Dean's List – only 1/2 of 1% of our nation's college students receive this award!  She also got accepted in the National Honors Society, Phi Theta Kappa and was inducted March 4th. Per Patricia, "I feel extremely honored to receive this award and knowing that by the grace of the Lord I was able to accomplish it through Him, is even more an honor."  She hope that the changes in her life "can help to inspire someone that happiness and success can come through believing in Jesus and living a life through Him.  It is never too late to change." The volunteer was used by God in a huge way in Patricia’s life, and now Patricia will be an instrument for Him also!"
